Nice Dinner @ Paradise Dynasty Ion Orchard on 28Apr2016

xiaolongbao 小笼包

xiaolongbao 小笼包

went with friends to watch captain america – civil war at shaw lido yesterday.

after the movie we adjourned to paradise dynasty at level 4 ion orchard for dinner on 28.4.2016. ^^.

another friend join us after his day seminar, so we had 4pax.

captain america – civil war was very enjoyable movie, the best comics movie for me, better than x-men etc which i like, and 1 of the best movies i have seen…

great story-telling, great dialogue, good humour… friendship…chemistry…so many good actors…super fun…

peanut & chestnuts starters - S$2.50

peanut & chestnuts starters – S$2.50

we asked the price of the peanut & chestnut starter. it was just S$2.50 so we took it. it was really good, there were lots of chestnuts.

paradise dynasty

paradise dynasty

the place was well patronised but not yet full at 8pm.

paradise dynasty

paradise dynasty

paradise dynasty was having 30% discounts on 5 dishes.

the service by the chinese server was very good. it was difficult for us to identify the 5 dishes as they appear in totally different parts of the ordering chit. she took us through, explained the dishes & ordered for us.

xiaolongbao 小笼包

xiaolongbao 小笼包 – S$7.80

we started with 2trays x 6 xiaolongbao 小笼包. so 3 pieces each for 4pax.

xiaolongbao 小笼包 was good. the soup inside was very tasty. however dough skin at top slightly thicker, also the meat filling not as tasty.

overall not as good as crystal jade lamian xiaolongbao.

later we greedy lot added another 2 trays, so in total each of us took 6 pieces. haha! 🙂

drunken chicken醉鸡

drunken chicken醉鸡 – S$9.50

drunken chicken was good too.

drunken chicken醉鸡

drunken chicken醉鸡 – S$9.50

chicken was tender. presentation was good. the 绍兴酒fragrance very good. 🙂

(for comparison see the photo for peach garden miramar, tasted good looked odd).

minced pork soup 狮子头

minced pork soup 狮子头 – S$9.80

the minced pork soup 狮子头 quite a ok soup.

minced pork soup 狮子头

minced pork soup 狮子头 – S$9.80

soup below S$7 after discount so ok.

but really pales in comparison with a good lie tong 例汤say at tunglok signature orchard parade.

omelette 赛螃蟹x

omelette 赛螃蟹 – S$13.80

the omelette 赛螃蟹 quite a meaningless dish for me, forgettable & it’s not cheap for egg whites with supposedly conpoy in it.

romaine lettuce油麦菜

romaine lettuce油麦菜 – S$10.80

the romaine lettuce油麦菜 was quite misleading. it looked like a very tiny serving so i thought it was expensive at S$10 (this dish no discounts).

actually it was quite a decent helping, so not really more ex say c/w kok sen, a zi char stall.

fried rice

fried rice – S$11.80

the fried rice was pretty good too. reasonably tasty & a good helping for 4pax.

fried rice

fried rice – S$11.80

not the best of course.

no comparison with crystal jade lamian xiaolongbao’s spicy seafood fried rice.

fried ramen

fried ramen – S$11.80

we ordered a fried ramen. i guess we could eat a lot if we want too.

fried ramen

fried ramen – S$11.80

it was ok, but really no different from any breakfast fried noodles or the hong kong style street sweet soy sauce noodles.

dinner came to S$108nett for 4pax.

a friend has his birthday next week so we bought him dinner. ^^

very enjoyable movie & a great dinner chat & time together with good friends.

price wise, if we kept to the 5 items with discount which was quite enough for 4pax, price would be S$70nett, so very reasonabe for the food.

we added of course the veg, the noodles & 2 more xiaolongbao. 🙂

Great Quality Lunch @ Tunglok Signature Orchard Parade on 6Appr2016

1/2 roast London duck - S$32

1/2 roast London duck – S$32

went with friend for lunch at tunglok signature @ orchard parade on 6.4.2016. ^^

just returned from london last evening. had an excellent family holiday in london, lisbon, porto with wife, son & daughter.

my OPS friend bought me an excellent G7 Sinma frog porridge lunch on 11.3.2016 before my trip.

so my turn to buy lunch. 🙂

garlic steamed razor clams - S$12.80

garlic steamed razor clams – S$12.80

we started with a steamed razor clam.

clam was smaller than what usually is served in say ah yat, jumbo, long beach etc. the sauce a bit gluey, but overall the taste was still very good. 🙂

i would order this again, also after 50% palate discounts for 2pax, this dish was only S$6.40++.

Lie tong 例汤 1/2 pot=S$16

lie tong 例汤 1/2 pot=S$16

we shared 1/2 pot lie tong 例汤 1/2 pot at S$16 (full pot S$28).

lie tong 例汤 always good here, and at others like imperial treasure etc. for me, a good lie tong 例汤 1/2 (they usually very good la) is better than taking sharksfin (politically incorrect) or even fishmaw soup.

1/2 roast London duck - S$32

1/2 roast London duck – S$32

& i wanted to let my friend try the roast london duck. ^^

they used irish duck which is fatter & more flavourful.

can’t it’s better than the tea smoked duck at xin cuisine,

but certainly it is better than the very good roast duck at canton paradise.

Rack of lamb - S$15

Rack of lamb – S$15

rack of lamb was good too, tender not too strong gamey taste. but chinese preparation is for me, never as good for this dish c/w with modern european.

we shared one order.

String beans - S$18

String beans – S$18

string beans was more ex, basically S$18 is a good restuarant kind of pricing for veg.

Garoupa fillet noodles soup - S$12

Garoupa fillet noodles soup – S$12

i had a zhajiangmian variation here with my wife recently.

this time, it was a garoupa fillet noodle soup.

it was good, soup very tasty, garoupa fillet fresh & sweet.

we shared one order.

Just Average Zi Char @ Jin Wee Siglap on 25Apr2016

fish maw soup - S$25

fish maw soup – S$25

a friend organised a movie session on 25.4.2016. ^^

we watched 2 movies – “Room” & “Everest”. in between, we walked to siglap for dinner.

jin wee restaurant @ siglap

jin wee restaurant @ siglap

it’s a regular zi char eating house.

jin wee restaurant - menu

jin wee restaurant – menu

menu likewise pretty standard zi char fare.

we were looking at the lie tong 例汤 S$12 & the fish maw soup S$25. a friend decided on the fish maw soup.

soup was quite good. quite chokeful of ingredients, good amount of crabmeat & very tasty.

not as good as the fish maw soup at beng thin, but maybe not that far off.

seemed expensive at S$25 at a zi char place like this, but what’s important is it’s good la..

crispy pork chop - S$15

crispy pork chop – S$15

the crispy pork is popular here, we ordered the larger serving at S$15.

crispy pork was good, & the sweet sour sauce was well done too, a competent sauce not too sweet & good with the pork. sweet & sour not my favourite though.

overall i like loo’s curry pork chop better.

fried tofu with minced pork - S$15

fried tofu with minced pork – S$15

the fried bean curd with minced pork was quite tasty too.

felt expensive to me at S$15 for a simple dish with cheap ingredients, but maybe it was not exorbitant.

sambal kang kong - S$10

sambal kang kong – S$8

the sambal kang kong was nice if quite standard fare anywhere.

the dinner came to S$71 including drinks (we had 4 barleys + 1 tea) for 5pax, so about S$14pax. we ordered not much food though just 3 dishes + soup.

i thought the prices were just a bit expensive but it was quite ok dinner overall.

Really Nice Fine Chinese Dinner @ Xin Cuisine on 1Oct2015

this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!!

S$28 – this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!!

wife & i went to xin cuisine for dinner on 1.10.2015.^^

though this is a palate restaurant, we had never use the amex palate privileges here before today.

the last time we had a superb fine dining here was 2.5yrs ago on 31.3.2013 for a ANZ set promotion.

excellent lie tong 例汤

S$9 – excellent lie tong 例汤

in fact, soup looked quite pathetic but it tasted phenomenal!!!

i think this excellent lie tong 例汤 should be offered & served in a nice earthen pot like at tunglok or say lei gardens in hk instead of an individual per portion serving. at the very least, even if it is served per portion, it should be done in a nice bowl instead of a jack’s place kind of soup serving!

excellent lie tong 例汤

S$9 – excellent lie tong 例汤

must try to do this lie tong at home.

this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!!

S$28 – this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!!

the duck & veg were just as phenomenal!

this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!! definitely better than the very nice duck at canton paradise. 🙂

this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!!

S$28 – this tea infused duck is the best roast duck i tried!!

the tea fragrance was so lingering! amazing! restaurant manager said it was because the hk chef not only smoked but also marinated the duck in tea.

maybe i will try my tea infused duck again…

just super! preserved vege with chinese small cabbage & egg plant

S$18 – just super! preserved vege with chinese small cabbage & egg plant

this preserved vege with chinese small cabbage & egg plant was super also.

just super! preserved vege with chinese small cabbage & egg plant

S$18 – just super! preserved vege with chinese small cabbage & egg plant

the flavours of the preserved vegetables with the light soy sauce, not salty, was inviting.

a very fine vegetable dish. 🙂

big prawn crispy noodles

S$14 – big prawn crispy noodles

the big prawn crispy noodles was great, as expected.

big prawn crispy noodles

S$14 – big prawn crispy noodles

crispy noodles & broth all good.

lobster noodles also good

S$22 – lobster noodles also good

lobster noodles also good, but broth tasted perhaps just a wee bit not as good as tunglok’s.

lobster noodles also good

S$22 – lobster noodles also good

overall still a very good dish.

i tried my own king prawns braised noodles previously which tasted pretty good too.

i served this at a 11pax homecooked lunch on 15.10.2015 & everyone loved it!^^

this a really nice enjoyable dinner & with 50% for 2pax amex palate discounts, dinner was just S$69.

for me, the dishes were very fine, the soup was wonderful, & the duck quite divine, delicate & lingering tea flavours, and so was the veg. the prawn noodles & lobsters noodles were more ordinary dishes but very well executed, real good class.

service was ok, except at the beginning server took inordinately long time to respond to taking orders (even after acknowledging which already took long time) when there were just 3 tables including our own.

Shiok as Before 2pax Dinner @ Tunglok Signature on 4Aug2015

steamed razor clams with tanhoon

S$12.80 steamed razor clams with tanhoon

had not been to tunglok signature at orchard parade for a while. last was in sep2014.

was deciding where to eat out for dinner. we had japanese recently at kuriya dining, and tomorrow i am cooking 12pax dinner at home which is mostly western/italian.

so we went to tunglok signature at orchard parade hotel for dinner this evening on 4.8.2015.

for me, the food never dissappoints, just as shiok as ever.

tunglok signature orchard parade hotel

tunglok signature orchard parade hotel

don’t think other diners share my views though. the place had just few tables, quite empty.

garlic pork 蒜泥白肉

S$8 garlic pork 蒜泥白肉

we ordered the garlic pork 蒜泥白肉.

garlic pork 蒜泥白肉

S$8 garlic pork 蒜泥白肉

it was good. i liked it & would order it again, but honestly it was not better than my own garlic pork 蒜泥白肉 though the style was quite different. i like my spicy garlic pork 蒜泥白肉 more in terms of the flavours & tenderness of my belly pork but this here was good & looked very nice too.

lie tong 例汤

S$16 lie tong 例汤

we had the  lie tong 例汤.

lie tong 例汤

S$ 16 lie tong 例汤

it was really good! ^^

my helper made very good lie tong 例汤 at home quite often, so this had to be really good to impress us. they had old cucumber & dried cuttlefish & pork softbones soup base. it was really tasty! 🙂

lie tong 例汤 ingredients

we ate up the 3 large pieces of pork softbones before remembering to take photo.

steamed razor clams with tanhoon

S$12.80 steamed razor clams with tanhoon

the  steamed razor clams with tanhoon was really good too. this was as good as the ones we often had previously at ah yat grandstand & very less frequently at jumbo and long beach at dempsey.

steamed razor clams with tanhoon

top restaurant standards & very much better than the ones we had at the daipaidongs 大排档 in hong kong.

garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs 百合

S$42 garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs 百合

we ordered the garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs 百合.

garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs 百合

garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs 百合

this was excellent too.

wok hae was very good. the garoupa fillet & vegetables – brocoli & lily bulbs 百合- were very well done.

i can definitely do this dish at home, maybe i will start with a vegetarian one for my niece’s coming brthday. 🙂

lobster noodles

S$28 lobster noodles

i was looking forward to the lobster noodles.

lobster noodles

S$28 lobster noodles

it was still good, but a far cry from the lobster noodles we had here previously(just looked at the previous photos here), or at any good restaurants eg xin restaurant.

just look at the old photos of the “real” loster noodles. that’s how it should look like!

dessert 雪中情怀

S$8 dessert 雪中情怀

& i always like the dessert 雪中情怀.

dessert 雪中情怀

dessert 雪中情怀

it did not dissappoint. really excellent, the combination of fresh coconut, mango, grapefruit, vanilla & coconut ice cream was super!

i take this everytime!^^

with 50% for 2pax amex palate discounts the food came to S$100nett for 2pax & we got free parking as well.

Expensive Below-par Food @ Lei Gardens Times Square on 5Apr2015

venus clams with sweet peas

venus clams with sweet peas

had expensive below par lunch today at lei gardens @ times square on 5.4.2015.

this was so different from the excellent lunch i had at 2 michelin star lei gardens at tsai yee street洗衣街 ‎mongkok outlet in 2013.

they had 2 seating & we booked 11.30am. we went to have a short walk at the mid-level escalators & stanley street & decided to eat some small portion of roast goose at yat lok.

so maybe we were a bit full & not great appetite.

lei gardens times square

lei gardens times square

service was quite polite actually. these days service pretty ok though they were always busy to have much time with you.

lie tong 鸡骨草例汤

lie tong 鸡骨草例汤

we had a lie tong 鸡骨草例汤. HK$148 for 1pot, maybe should have the 1/2pot HK$98.

it was ok i guess, but these days, my helper made such great soup on the slow cooker at home. also my memory of 鸡骨草例汤 at imperial treasure nanbei was that it was such a tasty soup this one really paled in comparison.

chicken feet in abalone sauce

chicken feet in abalone sauce

we ordered the hicken feet braised in abalone sauce HK$42. wife & son preferred the usual dimsum deep-fried chicken feet which we found out was just hk$32. 🙂

my son said he did not realise how nice the dimsum at timhowan were until compared with the much poorer ones here. in fact i think all of crystal jade, imperial treasure, tunglok & canton paradise are better.

radish pastry

radish pastry

the radish pastry was ok.

char siew fun cheong

char siew fun cheong

the char siew fun cheong was poor. skin was very doughy & tough.

noodles in lobster broth

noodles in lobster broth

we took the recommendations which had the venus clams with sweet beans (top photo) & the noodles in lobster broth combination for HK$298.

the venus clams was the only dish that was good. the lobster broth noodles was tasteless, really a surprise for me. somehow the food did not agree with us.

Wife’s Belated Birthday by My Buddies @ Tunglok Central on 19Nov2014

excellent roast pork (烧肉)

excellent roast pork (烧肉)

my buddies organised a belated birthday dinner for my wife on 19.11.2014. 🙂

the place was tunglok signature at central, the same place they did a birthday dinner to remember for me last year.

& i am very happy this year they again did a birthday dinner for me at chef chan & this dinner for my wife. such great friends! 🙂

friend's god sister arranged wine

excellent roast pork (烧肉)

excellent roast pork (烧肉)

my friend’s god sister again pre-ordered the food. & she arranged the wine & cake too. 🙂

we had the roast pork (烧肉), which was really excellent. skin was very crispy & the texture & taste was marvellous, & not too fatty.

salted egg cod fish fillet

salted egg cod fish fillet

salted egg cod fish fillet

salted egg cod fish fillet

next was a salted egg cod fish fillet. it was very well done. cod was very good. for me & also my wife though, the dish was deep-fried & even though it was done well & not very oily, it could not match the simple steamed cod with mui choy (梅菜)。

wasabi mayo prawns

wasabi mayo prawns

likewise wasabi mayo prawns was well done & nicely presented. it came with mangoes & salad.  presentation was superior to peach garden’s yuzu prawns. taste wise peach garden’s equally good. yuzu taste was great & dish better w/o the mayo.

there was a miscommunication with the server. we thought there were 7 dishes & waited for the noodles & dessert. but it turned out that friend’s god sister arranged 5 dishes & instructed the restaurant to take our orders for the carb & dessert.

anyway we were really full with the 5 dishes & there was also the birthday cake, so we decided to skip the carb & dessert. just as well! 🙂

tunglok provided a complimentary salted egg longevity bun (流沙寿桃) & after singing the birthday song, the servers recited the the 生日快乐十全美 verses. service was excellent! they also provided complimentary star fruit juice. 🙂

the cake was a nutty chocolate banana from swissbake. i liked the cake though could not taste the nutty part. 🙂

it was a very enjoyable, memorable evening.

Great S$88 4pax Set Lunch @ Tunglok Signature at Central on 19Feb2014

smoked duck breast

smoked duck breast

had a great 4pax fun lunch at tunglok @ central today on 19.2.2014.

i visited the clinic of my close dental surgeon friend twice a year for regular maintenance, and we went lunch near his clinic afterwards each time with 2 other close friends. 🙂

today i ordered the S$88 6-course set lunch for 4pax. PLUS i added a xiaolongbao (小笼包), pan-fried custard buns (流沙包), and a dessert 雪中情怀=杨支甘露 + ice cream for 2 to share, as 2 other of us did not want dessert. 🙂

prawns with egg white (赛螃蟹)

#1 the 2 dim sums were quite ok, competent – fupeiquin (腐皮卷) was good, siew mai 烧卖 was ok..the xiaolongbao (小笼包)i added was low in tasty soup, skin average, overall average or below, the pan-fried custard buns (流沙包) which i asked to serve with the dessert was also average. overall dim sum wise cannot compare with crystal jade or imperial treasure. 🙂

#2 smoked duck breast was par excellence, as is quite obvious from the photo (top & above) & the braised bean curd too. 🙂

#3 lie tong (例汤) was very good, the ingredients included pork soft bones & 粉角 arrowroots, an excellent soup as always. 🙂

#4 the poached heng chye with beard was good too.

#5 the prawns with egg white (赛螃蟹) i guess was ok above average dish, prawns was fresh bouncy, the style of preparation not my favourite.

the pan-fried custard buns (流沙包) was ok average but really the ones at royal china & imperial treasure were much better.

雪中情怀=杨支甘露 + ice cream is my favourite here, though i didn’t take it today. the complimentary refreshment was ok welcome.

overall the set lunch (exclude ala carte orders) was S$100++=S$117 include S$8 for 4pax tea & S$4 for peanuts which could do without. quite a good set lunch deal! 🙂 including 2 more dim sum & 1 desert it was S$141, still ok.

Great Ala Carte Dinner @ Tunglok Signature at Orchard Parade on 29Nov2013

fried mixed vegetables

went back to tunglok signature @ orchard parade on 29.11.2013. was raining so wanted car park with shelter & did not want to go far. 🙂

雪中情怀mango pomelo dessert with 2 scoops ice cream S$8

we decided to try the specials – a fish soup S$38. the soup was excellent! very smooth, sweet, tasty. 🙂 it was expensive though. the portion was similar to a 1/2 pot of lie tong (例汤) which cost S$14 – served 1.5 to 2 bowls each for 2pax. probably better off with the lie tong.

the lamb rack came with onion ring & tomato. it was very good too. lamb was very tender w/o strong taste, equal to the best among good western restaurants. the mildly sweet sauce was a nice change from the usual mint sauce too. 🙂

the mixed vegetable (top photo) was an excellent vegetarian dish. on this night it was a bit oily, but otherwise very good.

& the lobster ramen in superior sauce was heavenly. i had lobster noodles often at hua ting some years back when i had the alacarte card as it was very good. but this was even better! ramen was very nice too, especially the texture/bite. 🙂

& we rounded up with the really enjoyable  雪中情怀mango pomelo dessert with 2 scoops of ice cream. we asked to change the usual vanilla to coconut ice cream – very nice indeed! 🙂

the dinner was S$172 before discount. i wouldn’t do this at such prices. with 50% palate discount it was S$86 & a very good price for such fine dinner. the weekend lobster 6-course set though was even better as it included the 2 best dishes – lobster ramen & 雪中情怀 – plus other great dishes!

Another Wonderful Lunch @ Tunglok Signature Orchard Parade on 30Oct2013

razor clams

razor clams S$10.50 each

a good friend bought me an excellent lunch at tunglok signature @ orchard parade on 30.10.2013. according to the service staff, they wanted to promote their set menu hence they offered palate discounts only for set menus on weekends (i had an excellent dinner set here recently on 19.10.2013),  this was a weekday, we could only do ala carte to have the discounts. 🙂

star garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs

star garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs S$38

lobster in 2 ways

lobster in 2 ways S$32 for 1/2 lobster

ala carte was good too. 🙂

we ordered the razor clams. this was steamed with the usual minced garlic. the sauce looked a bit darker than light soy sauce. the taste was good, and the bite was almost there though my friend felt it was still a wee bit tough. so it wasn’t perfect but still pretty good. btw, i also did a good steamed razor clam in garlic oil myself. 🙂

the lie tong as usual was super! 🙂 the 1/2 pot was enough for 4pax & we had 2 bowls each.

the star garoupa fillet with brocoli & lily bulbs were ok but missing the very evident wok hae, & the fish was not as firm & sweet as the ones i had recently at tunglok signature branch @ central.

the lobster in 2 ways – the flour gratin part was flavourful & the other was sweet & watermelon refreshing. 🙂 still, it was not quite worth S$32pax & both my friend & i would go with lobster steamed with superior sauce (上汤局) anytime. 🙂

for dessert my friend ordered the durian puree in coconut. i tried a teaspoon of the duran. it was excellent! i had the aloe vera with lime sorbet. it was very good too. i love it! 🙂 we also had some complimentary 5 juices in a test tube. 🙂

it was a very enjoyable lunch! the cost came to S$96 for 2 after 50% palate discounts. they only charged S$1.50pax for tea. we had pu er & tea was good tea too. they should see me around more often.

Fine Dinner @ 1 Michelin Star Tim’s Kitchen 桃花源小廚 Sheung Wan on 29Sep2013

1/2 roast goose HK$230

before our hk trip, a successful banker friend who had lived in hk for several years recommended us a list of good restaurants to try. in addition to 1 michelin star tim’s kitchen 桃花源小廚, there were the chairman & cuisine cuisine etc. i looked at the web menu & prices, and they were in the realm of the stars too. 🙂 anyway i selected tim’s kitchen as though the per pax specials were really illogically expensive, there were quite a number of reasonably priced good chinese food orders.

the restaurant, located a short walk from sheung wan mtr station, was pleasant & cosy & understated. there were quite many nice chinese verses in picture frames decorating the walls.  we were quite tickled with the english translations, kind of reminded us of google translate.

as many of the 7 diners were still full from lunch & snacks, we ordered just a few dishes and fewer of the per pax expensive signature dishes.

杏仁茶

杏仁茶

we had a nice century egg with pickled ginger appertizer.  the 1/2 roast goose @ HK$230 (top photo) was very flavourful. however the meat was a bit tough (in teochew we say “joon”). 1 friend thought the skin was poor & not crisp. i thought it was ok though preparation & presentation-wise, not sure if it should be in a claypot & if it was covered before serving – the heat retention would steam up the goose & made the skin soft. this really should be served on an open plate & not covered or even in a claypot??

the lie tong 例汤 @ HK$160 for large  was superb & matching the standards of lei gardens. it came with very good ingredients (腩肉,鲮鱼 & 粉角 arrowroots). 🙂 another excellent dish was steamed minced pork with salted fish – this comfort food was ourite dish (along with the soup). the salted fish was superior quality. 🙂 1 more comfort food was the pork ribs with bittergourd in black beans – pork ribs were very well braised, tender & tasty. bittergourd was ok for me but too bitter for the others, more bitter than my own preparation (i soaked in sugar water) & i like it spicy (this was not). the kailan was ordinary but hk vegetables were just great – green, juicy, tasty. 🙂

we ordered just a couple of the fancy stuff.  first the crystal prawns @ HK$160pax serving. 1 friend didn’t think anything of it. it was quite ok for me, rather unique bite, presentation & sweet taste. we cut it into 7 pieces for sharing so couldn’t really tell much. the price is absolutely out for me though. next was 3 servings of braised pomelo skin in prawn roe @HK$80pax = HK$240. didn’t know pomelo skin could be eaten. this dish was unique & imaginative to me (but seems that HK-ers do this at home too). it was very well done in texture & taste & should go better with rice. not a favourite for me but don’t mind to have just 1 HK$80pax serving to share among 4pax.

last, we had 杏仁茶 (1 friend thought it was too dilute. it was not a 露or a 糊) & red bean soup. 🙂

dinner was HK$1400 for 7 so HK$200pax. of course we ordered very few dishes but we could also have substituted the expensive per pax dishes by more ordinary comfort food. overall, i quite like this place, ambience & everything, and i would come back the next time. the soup was excellent & the pomelo dish showed that they could produce high quality fine food, though at a price i was unwilling to pay. but there were the ordinary chinese comfort food at reasonable prices produced by a fine 1 michelin star kitchen.
