Pretty Decent Lunch Sets @ Watami Ion Orchard on 24May2016

salmon stone pot set S$13.90

salmon stone pot set S$13.90

my good friend arranged to watch x-men apocalypse 3D Imax at shaw lido on 24.5.2016. 3 of us went for the movie.

we are all x-men junkies. the movie was very enjoyable. story-wise i thought en sabah nur (the first mutant) story could be better developed, overall storytelling & character development quite superficial for me & the fighting sequence also less impressive relative to cpt america (civil war). but i enjoy all the x-men movies & this movie would be more not less…

the 3D experience also quite good… glasses were large & sat comfortably than of old…..

not sure about the imax don’t really have the immersion right at the centre experience..not too hot about the S$14 vs normal SC (senior citizen) S$4 ticket…anyway parking at shaw was $15.50 (almost 5.5hrs including lunch & coffee) so whole thing quite ex…

after the movie, we first tried bangkok jam, but the 40% discount only starts at 5.30pm, so we settled on watami.

the stone pot set includes salad & drink. we ordered all 3 & all were good.

a friend had the salmon. i tried. it was very flavourful & of the 3 this the one i liked best, and i did not even have the ikura.

pepper beef stone pot set S$9.90

pepper beef stone pot set S$9.90

another friend had the pepper beef. flavour also very good.

i did not want to take tis as it looked like th food court pepper lunch, but actually it as very flavourful.

pork stone pot set S$12.90

pork stone pot set S$12.90

i had the pork stone pot set.

pork stone pot set S$12.90

pork stone pot set S$12.90

i liked it too.

it had more ingredients than the pepper beef but both were ok with me.

pork stone pot set S$12.90

pork stone pot set S$12.90

the salad was quite standard, simple but still quite nice.

coffee

coffee

for the drink, a friend had hot yuzu tea. 2 of us had the coffee which was quite ok.

lunch came to S$43nett for 3 pax, pretty good. anyway my parking already cost more than lunch or 3D Imax movie la…

Nice Dinner @ Paradise Dynasty Ion Orchard on 28Apr2016

xiaolongbao 小笼包

xiaolongbao 小笼包

went with friends to watch captain america – civil war at shaw lido yesterday.

after the movie we adjourned to paradise dynasty at level 4 ion orchard for dinner on 28.4.2016. ^^.

another friend join us after his day seminar, so we had 4pax.

captain america – civil war was very enjoyable movie, the best comics movie for me, better than x-men etc which i like, and 1 of the best movies i have seen…

great story-telling, great dialogue, good humour… friendship…chemistry…so many good actors…super fun…

peanut & chestnuts starters - S$2.50

peanut & chestnuts starters – S$2.50

we asked the price of the peanut & chestnut starter. it was just S$2.50 so we took it. it was really good, there were lots of chestnuts.

paradise dynasty

paradise dynasty

the place was well patronised but not yet full at 8pm.

paradise dynasty

paradise dynasty

paradise dynasty was having 30% discounts on 5 dishes.

the service by the chinese server was very good. it was difficult for us to identify the 5 dishes as they appear in totally different parts of the ordering chit. she took us through, explained the dishes & ordered for us.

xiaolongbao 小笼包

xiaolongbao 小笼包 – S$7.80

we started with 2trays x 6 xiaolongbao 小笼包. so 3 pieces each for 4pax.

xiaolongbao 小笼包 was good. the soup inside was very tasty. however dough skin at top slightly thicker, also the meat filling not as tasty.

overall not as good as crystal jade lamian xiaolongbao.

later we greedy lot added another 2 trays, so in total each of us took 6 pieces. haha! 🙂

drunken chicken醉鸡

drunken chicken醉鸡 – S$9.50

drunken chicken was good too.

drunken chicken醉鸡

drunken chicken醉鸡 – S$9.50

chicken was tender. presentation was good. the 绍兴酒fragrance very good. 🙂

(for comparison see the photo for peach garden miramar, tasted good looked odd).

minced pork soup 狮子头

minced pork soup 狮子头 – S$9.80

the minced pork soup 狮子头 quite a ok soup.

minced pork soup 狮子头

minced pork soup 狮子头 – S$9.80

soup below S$7 after discount so ok.

but really pales in comparison with a good lie tong 例汤say at tunglok signature orchard parade.

omelette 赛螃蟹x

omelette 赛螃蟹 – S$13.80

the omelette 赛螃蟹 quite a meaningless dish for me, forgettable & it’s not cheap for egg whites with supposedly conpoy in it.

romaine lettuce油麦菜

romaine lettuce油麦菜 – S$10.80

the romaine lettuce油麦菜 was quite misleading. it looked like a very tiny serving so i thought it was expensive at S$10 (this dish no discounts).

actually it was quite a decent helping, so not really more ex say c/w kok sen, a zi char stall.

fried rice

fried rice – S$11.80

the fried rice was pretty good too. reasonably tasty & a good helping for 4pax.

fried rice

fried rice – S$11.80

not the best of course.

no comparison with crystal jade lamian xiaolongbao’s spicy seafood fried rice.

fried ramen

fried ramen – S$11.80

we ordered a fried ramen. i guess we could eat a lot if we want too.

fried ramen

fried ramen – S$11.80

it was ok, but really no different from any breakfast fried noodles or the hong kong style street sweet soy sauce noodles.

dinner came to S$108nett for 4pax.

a friend has his birthday next week so we bought him dinner. ^^

very enjoyable movie & a great dinner chat & time together with good friends.

price wise, if we kept to the 5 items with discount which was quite enough for 4pax, price would be S$70nett, so very reasonabe for the food.

we added of course the veg, the noodles & 2 more xiaolongbao. 🙂

S$6.50 Salted Egg Chicken Rice @ Mini Wok Zi Char 迷你锅煮炒 @ Shaw Basement Food Republic on 6Nov2015

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

went to watch “The Intern” at shaw lido with a friend today on 6.11.2015. ^^

i really enjoyed the movie. super! 🙂

robert de niro acting was just incredible. so was anne hathaway.

& such natural flow story telling, everyday humour, human story.

we can talk about friendship & loyalty & empathy & calming presence, but it is just that, human beings sharing, being there for each other, and just so being with the times, new economy business, 70 yr old retiree…

mini wok zi char 迷你锅煮炒@shaw basement food republic

mini wok zi char 迷你锅煮炒@shaw basement food republic

after movie, it was 2.30pm – ish.

we decided just to get a bite at the food republic at basement of shaw house. 🙂

i had previously –

was going to settle for either roast chicken rice or roast duck noodles stall, but saw this mini wok zi char 迷你锅煮炒.

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

there were many dishes on the photo menu. i would not mind the pepper beef or the pork onion rice.

anyhow we saw this salted egg chicken rice = no.1 seller! must try!

so try we did.

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

& it was good leh.

this is a very professional planned instant dish delivery, very quick turnover & consistent good standard.

deep-fried chicken pieces were pro-done, fried egg too.

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

S$6.50 salted egg chicken rice best seller (not bad!)

the instant “chef” put the chicken pieces into the hot oil, the helper placed the rice, fried egg & some pickles on the aluminium serving wok on a tray for easy handling. then the chef fried the heated deep-fried chicken pieces with the salted egg sauce, probably took 1 min & then placed on top of the rice. voila!

S$6.50 was ok. quite enjoyable! ^^

ice kachang

S$2.80 ice kacang

we chatted for a while, then decided to take a “drink”.

ice kachang

S$2.80 ice kacang

anyhow i had ice kacangsalted egg chicken rice from the drink stall & my friend had iced cheng teng. S$2.80 ea but it was good. my ice kacang, great taste, good ingredients.

very enjoyable movie, meal & chat with friend. 🙂

So-So Dinner @ Sopra Cucina on 10Sep2014

suckling pig - S$48

suckling pig – S$48

decided to have dinner at sopra cucina at pan pacific orchard after watching a movie “magic in the moonlight” at shaw lido on 10.9.2014.

sopra cucina & bar had great ambience. the inside was like a large private drawing room with chesterfield deep-buttoned leather seats. it had a charming facade & there was an open patio bar area & live music. some hungrygowhere reviewers commented on the loud & bad singing. on this evening seated inside the restaurant, the music was ok & the singing was fine & probably welcomed by the bar customers. 🙂

the restaurant had few customers on this evening.

bread basket

bread basket

the bread basket was poor (or like a pizzeria or fast-food serving) & not really consistent with the furnishings & ambience of the restaurant.

octopus salad - S$18

octopus salad – S$18

octopus salad - S$18

octopus salad – S$18

we ordered the octopus salad. it was not chef’s recommendations but apparently quite popular with customers. it was quite a large helping. the steamed octopus were ok not tough, like the ones at vicoletti at stresa, but not the standard of the grilled octopus at alle darsene at bellagio. still it was pretty good for an antipasti. 🙂

pregola frutti di mare - S$28

pregola frutti di mare – S$28

sopra cucina served sardinia (second largest island in the mediterranean after sicily & before cyprus) cuisine.  we ordered the pregola frutti di mare. the prawns were fresh. the scallops & squid were so-so. the tomato flavours were ok but felt more like an average sauce than that from nice fresh tomatoes. the pregolas looked like “barley risotto” but pasta in texture. i would rather have a spaghetti or linguine or fettucine anytime. it’s a personal preference i guess. somehow the dish did not give me the same satisfaction & enjoyment of a good pasta.

suckling pig - S$48

suckling pig – S$48

suckling pig - S$48

suckling pig – S$48

suckling pig - S$48

suckling pig – S$48

suckling pig - S$48

suckling pig – S$48

the roast suckling pig was quite flavourful & the skin was crispy. of course i would rather have the chinese roast suckling pig anytime. i supposed it’s as good as the suckling pig at capri, but for me the suckling pig with stuffing at one ninety mezze lunch was far better.

with 50% palate discounts for 2pax, the bill came to S$74nett including a glass of wine, or S$47++=S$55nett just for the 3 dishes. so price was ok but the satisfaction was not there, unlike say the scrumptious dinner at arossa on 3.9.2014.

i saw that there were several sadinian dishes like gnocchi, ravioli, the lamb & the fish which all looked pretty good on photos. still undecided whether i want to give it another try later.

Scrumptious Kagoshima Wagyu Dinner @ Arossa Scotts Square on 3Sep2014

kagoshima wagyu medium rare (180g)

kagoshima wagyu medium rare (180g)

watched a very good movie “the hundred-foot journey” at shaw lido with wife yesterday on 3.9.2014, and decided to go across the road to arossa at scotts square for dinner. 🙂

i weren’t going to take photos & blog at first as we came here only 2 weeks ago & had wonderful miyazaki wagyu on 16.8.2014.

anyhow we ordered the same uni (sea urchin) pasta to share & also 2 new menu items – kagoshima wagyu (miyazaki wagyu not available) and an iberico pork chop, so i decided to blog in the end. 🙂

uni (sea urchin) pasta

uni (sea urchin) pasta

uni (sea urchin) pasta

uni (sea urchin) pasta

the server offered to split the uni (sea urchin) pasta. it was good as before. i enjoyed this wonderful starter very much. 🙂

lightly breaded iberico pork chop

lightly breaded iberico pork chop

kagoshima wagyu medium rare (180g)

kagoshima wagyu medium rare (180g)

we had such a superb miyazaki wagyu steak here & we were looking forward. but this time they replaced it with a kagoshima & it was just fabulous, perhaps more. chef watanabe is such a skilful specialist in grilling technique. the steak was so nicely charred for maillard reaction & the meat was pink & consistent, and very flavourful & marbled with melt-in-the-mouth texture. 🙂

lightly breaded iberico pork chop

lightly breaded iberico pork chop

the lightly breaded iberico pork chop was very good as well, though one could not compare a spanish pork chop to japanese wagyu…lol. 🙂

the jap wagyu will bring me back here sooner than later, and also there are other items on the menu including squid ink pasta & antipasti etc which i can explore further. 🙂
