Good Kambing Soup @ Bahrakath Mutton Soup at Adam Road Food Centre on 5Jan2017

$6 kambing soup - ribs

$6 kambing soup – ribs

went to adam road food centre to take char kuay teow but stall was closed.

so took kabing soup instead at bahrakath mutton soup on 5.1.2017. ^^

bahrakath mutton soup

bahrakath mutton soup

the dishes & prices now clearly displayed. the mutton leg with tulang most popular. the tripe looked good too. anyhow i opted for the ribs, which i like also.

$6 kambing soup - ribs

$6 kambing soup – ribs

S$6?S$10 for ribs, which i guess also around the prices for chinese mutton soup.

i ordered S$6. there’s about 10 pieces.

i think the ribs really good, very tender, excellent texture.

$6 kambing soup - ribs

$6 kambing soup – ribs

the soup, at its best, is very good too.

but never quite comparable to good chinese herbal mutton soup like at chai chuan tou chinese mutton soup 柴船头羊肉汤 at bukit merah view food centre.

this evening, soup not as intense as what i had before. still good but not near the best.

Good Jing House Yong Tau Foo on 6Jan2017

yong tau foo

yong tau foo – S$3.50

went to sheng shiong to get something on 6.1.2017.

just 1 item to buy so out immediately. i compliantly parked & put 1/2hr parking oupon.

jing house yong tau foo

jing house yong tau foo

weiyi laksa at tanglin halt food centre not opened.

decided to look in on the yong tau foo stall at koufy tanglin halt.

jing house yong tau foo

jing house yong tau foo

they are selling 6 pieces + noodles for S$3.50.

jing house yong tau foo

jing house yong tau foo

i had 7 pieces, no noodles, so still S$3.50.

yong tau foo

yong tau foo – $3.50

there is yellow beans provided on the side you can add yourself to the soup or ytf bowl.

all items, plus chilli & sweet sauce, nice, except kang kong/othe veg small servings.

have been eating more ytf recently-

  1. best for me = hillview ytf at meiling food centre.
  2. meixi’s kitchen yong tau foo 美茜酿豆腐 at commonwealth drive blk 115B also very good, more fried stuff, somewhat different items.
  3. a poor one at SGH kopitiam, &
  4. a real bad one, hakka yong tau foo at holland drive food centre.

this one here would be on par wiht meixi’s kitchen just somewhat different items.

going back a bit earlier, the best i had so far (partly because of the nice mined pork noodles) is at u hakka at circuit road food centre.

i am quite happy with jing house overall,

Gentle Braised Pork Belly 回锅肉with Celery – 25th Teban Gardens Community Breakfast on 6Jan2017

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery

it’s the start of new year 2017!

i did a gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery for teban gardens community breakfast this morning on 6.1.2017. ^^

this my 25th friday breakfast community meal at teban gardens community service centre.

i first started doing a community meal dish for teban gardens CSC on 8.1.2016.

the centre was started in 2002 after much effort & challenge by our RI friend who is a pastor of pasir panjang hill brethren church (pphbc) which owns & runs the CSC.

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery

it’s a gentle braise because it is done 5.5hrs in a 95degC oven, the belly pork covered with water in a sealed oven dish. 🙂

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉

and it’s 回锅肉because after the braise & quite easy cutting (above photo), it was marinated with 1 tbsp cornflour, 2 tbsp fish sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce, 2 tbsp shaoxing wine, & returned to the wokpan for quick searing.

totally tender, & very tasty.

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery

gentle braised pork belly 回锅肉with celery

& some may notice the brown colour pork pieces in the photos.

i was experimenting with using tai hwa braising sauce. so a smaller portion was done with braising sauce in oven dish in same 95degC oven for 5.5hrs (basically overnight while i slept soundly la!)….

in this case i do not sear it, so it was just kongbak final version.

for feedback, the teban centre director preferred the kongbak, very well infused 入味, she decided.

another lady prefer the 回锅肉 (i think slightly more tender as the marinade firmed up a bit the pork) but likes the kongbak gelatinous skin.

good feedback!

anyway now that i can just use tai hwa braising sauce, it becomes so easy to do a good kongbak, braised belly pork… 🙂

Early Birthday Lunch for my RI Running Buddy @ Tunglok Signatures Orchard Parade on 3Jan2017

siew yoke roast pork

siew yoke roast pork – S$12

had a nice lunch with my running buddy at tunglok signatures today on 3.1.2017. ^^

food here always nice, but parking is expensive, & now they refused to give free parking. so my friend piked me up & we went in one car. go green anyway!

the siew yoke – roast pork always good here. it’s amazing all these good restaurants, they can render out the fat layer almost completely, so it’s like a crispy skin plus fairly lean meat below! 🙂

lie tong 例汤with arrow roots

lie tong 例汤with arrow roots – 1/2 pot for S$16

i ordered the lie tong 例汤 everytime.

they are always good, and often better than many sharksfin soup la…

1/2 pot = S$16 serves 4 bowls, so good for 2-3pax.

today it’s arrowroots, still good but not the best. the best include 鸡骨草 & green papaya etc…

salted egg prawns & wasabi prawns

salted egg prawns & wasabi prawns – S$10

the prawns in 2 ways also my frequent order.

it looked nice, and came with a 2 large prawns – wasabi & salted egg, very well matched with a sweet water melon. today it was done very well. sometimes the deep-fry not light & just right.

salted egg prawns & wasabi prawns

salted egg prawns & wasabi prawns

all these are 1 person portion. but really the meal would be too heavy if you order a few course, so we took 1 portion to share, and for my friend, for him to taste more dishes.

so shared by 2, still a very welcoming portion. 🙂

pepper sauce lamb rack

pepper sauce lamb rack – S$12

tunglok does one of the best chinese (maybe fusion??) lamb rack.

maybe all good chinese restaurants do that these days.

pepper sauce lamb rack

pepper sauce lamb rack – S$12

lamb was nicely medium rare, tender & no strong gamey taste, just like any western preparation.

& the pepper sauce was just nice, not overly stickly sweet, overpoweringly pepperish like they used to do in older time chinese restaurants.

fried kailan

fried kailan – S$18

this kailan must be among their worst dishes!

quite edible, but neither presentation, look nor taste belongs to the dish quality in this restaurant.

it’s more like from a quite mediocre zi char. most zi char will do better than this. & i would do too myself la…lol!^^

lobster noodles

lobster noodles – S$28

the lobster noodles here always good.

i order 1 portion each. the lobster steak was done very well, as always, very good grilled flavours & excellent bite texture.

the  yellow sauce was ok. today the dish came early while we were working on the kailan & we took it a bit later, so the yellow sauce not as great when cold. noodles remained al dente & good. 🙂

this the dish i emulated & rehashed 2+yrs back = king prawn noodles (黄焖大虾面)

noodles & sauce-wise, mine wasn’t too bad too. of course cannot compare with the lobster steak.

Family Bukit Timah Hawker Centre Tour after Bukit Timah Hill Walk on 2jan2017

S$3 fried kuay teow

S$3 fried kuay teow

6 of us including our helper went for a family out, a walk up bukit timah hill, on 2.1.2017. ^^

we parked at jalan bingka along rifle range road, and walked along the rail corridor, passed (under) the PIE then the anak bukit flyovers, about 10mins to hindhede road.

we were fast “walkers”. we started at 8.22am up the south view path to the summit, then down along the road at arrived back at the visitors’ centre at 9.16am, about 54mins all in.

we decided to walk over to the courts side.

it was early, so joo seng teochew muay & many stalls were not opened yet, so we decided to walk over to bukit timah food centre.

xin heng fried kuay teow

xin heng fried kuay teow

i wanted to try the char kuay teow. no queue, no so popular?

S$3 fried kuay teow

S$3 fried kuay teow

anyhow the S$3 fried kuay teow was pretty ok.

quite tasty, good wok hae, not many cockles, overall experience quite nice.

nothing special but quite competent. i am ok with it.

138 kueh chap

138 kueh chap

there was a long queue for the kueh chap.

kueh chap

kueh chap

the best thing here for me was the braised belly pork.

did not look that great, but it was tasty, and the texture was great, good bite, so dry.

kueh chap

kueh chap

the small intestines, pig skin, taupok were all ok.

i did not think it was quite average, nothing particularly good other than the belly pork.

very bad kueh

very bad kueh

the kueh was very poor. thick, not good texture, and the braise sauce also not great.

i would say 康乐stall at HL43 Food House was much better. the kueh there was very good.

hong wen mutton soup

hong wen mutton soup

the mutton soup opens at 10am.

i decided to try when it starts serving.

S$5 mutton innard soup

S$5 mutton innard soup

ordered a S$5 羊杂汤, mutton innards soup.

S$5 mutton innard soup

S$5 mutton innard soup

i didn’t like the soup. it was too herbal & unnaturally sweet for me.

i think very poor c/w chai chuan tou chinese mutton soup 柴船头羊肉汤 at bukit merah view food centre.

no comparison la…

he zhong fried carrot cake

he zhong fried carrot cake

there was this very long queue at he zhong fried carrot cake stall. you can see it from the road.

the children managed to order a plate, the wait was 1/2hr & they bring to the table, then pay.

he zhong fried carrot cake

he zhong fried carrot cake

it was good, great wok hae, tasty carrot cake.

i can see why people queue though i would not queue myself.

after makan, we walked back along the road back to jln bingka.

Very Good Dinner @ Portico Prime on 2Jan2017

freshly shucked oysters=6xS$5

freshly shucked oysters=6xS$5

wife wanted to relax & have a good dinner. it’s public holiday so some amex lovedining places like tunglok do not offer discounts.

i called up portico prime @ dempsey & they had the usual discount so we went on 2.1.2017.

portico prime

portico prime

portico prime is the previous prime society.

we liked the wagyu steaks & oysters here & came here when it was prime society, on 28.4.2015.

warm bread so so butter

warm bread so so butter

bread was warm & soft, not flavourful so very average & better was frozen hard like those at cafeteria.

freshly shucked oysters=6xS$5

freshly shucked oysters=6xS$5

oysters were ok, the “gee?” was creamier than the “ocean”.

oysters

oysters

i don’t know much about oysters, but looking back at the photos on 28.4.2015, the oysters then looked a lot creamier.

oysters

oysters

memory then was that oysters were good, while these were average.

caviar truffle capellini with sakura ebi

caviar truffle capellini with sakura ebi S$30

the caviar truffle capellini with sakura ebi dish was very flavourful.

with 50% discounts it was S$15.

at first it still looked expensive c/w say saveur or concetto.

portion was actually small for main but larger than the S$6, S$7 appetizer at saveur or concetto.

caviar truffle capellini with sakura ebi

caviar truffle capellini with sakura ebi

the taste though was awesome!

this a popular dish here, & i would order it again.

the truffle flavour was endearing with the al dente pasta, and the sakura ebi very tasty, crunchy and added some saltiness to the dish, combined perfectly. i think taste wise better than saveur & concetto which were also good.

200g usda choice grain-fed ribeye

200g usda choice grain-fed ribeye S$46

they did not have 2 dishes we wanted to order this evening – the kagoshima A5 wagyu, and mussels.

200g usda choice grain-fed ribeye

200g usda choice grain-fed ribeye S$46

we ordered the usda choice ribeye first.

it was really good, and the brown sauce was great too. done medium rare quite perfectly, very sweet, tender, flavourful steak. pencil asparagus was the cheaper variety, but it was good.

labrezza’s 300g angus ribeye with salsa & rockets was cheaper though & equally good.

200g australian grass-fed sirloin

200g australian grass-fed sirloin S$42

we were not particularly hungry but we decided to try another steak, though it was grass-fed & sirloin, altogether poorer cut & price not much different.

200g australian grass-fed sirloin

200g australian grass-fed sirloin S$42

steak was not as tender, still sweet but not as.

200g australian grass-fed sirloin

200g australian grass-fed sirloin

& medium rare doneness a bit over, not ideal overall. i won’t order this next time.

& i will call up first to ask if the jap A5 wagyu available.

portico prime inherited the largely same arresting ambience of prime society. the restaurant seems to be priced a bit lower end than prime society, and a bit more variety. portico group is helmed by nixon low who was with petite menu, and before that andre & saint pierre.

3pax Family Home Dinner (Gochujang Dishes) on 1Jan2017

gochujang pork chop & sotong with onions

gochujang pork chop & sotong with onions

made a simple dinner for 3pax dinner this evening on 1.1.2017. ^^

lazy to go out & eat, & lazy to think of dishes to cook.

gochujang pork chop

gochujang pork chop

just used gochujang to marinate pork chop with chopped ginger & garlic.

then fried with small bit of butter on a hot nonstick ceramic coated pan.

pork chop (this cut is called西施骨, a pork ribeye) was quite tasty, especially the thinner part with some fat.

my very discerning wife & daughter thought it did not taste korean enough, just a tasty pork chop. they thought it needed some kimchi taste, not just gochujang.

probably so, don’t really have answer for now. didn’t have recipe & just “gazak” anyhow marinade.

can try again but this dish not a top priority for me.

sotong with onions

sotong with onions

i marinated the sotong with the leftover marinade.

the chopped ginger went very well with the pork chop, less well with the sotong.

so no need to add chopped ginger for sotong next time, just chopped garlic will do fine.

sotong with onions

sotong with onions

sotong was quite tasty too, and the right texture.

again the dish did not taste distinctive, and was not any better than say chilli fry, oyster sauce or squid ink. so ok but nothing special.

marinated sotong

marinated sotong

marinated pork chop

marinated pork chop

the marinade colours looked great & appetizing.

the dishes themselves ok, quite tasty but not special.

gochujang pork chop

gochujang pork chop

so far, the best result still the pork chop, just that i would probably do just nice a pork chop with other marinade. let me check up later on any better marinade recipe to produce “more korean” distinctive flavours.

ask my korean friends?

S$3 Fishball Noodles @ Xinlu 新路 on 1Jan2017

S$3 fish ball nodles

S$3 fish ball noodles

went with wife to meiling street food centre this morning on 1.1.2017.

we wanted to take the hill view yong tau foo 山景酿豆腐 , but the stall was closed.

since we were already there & parked we decided to take the xinlu 新路 S$3 teochew fish ball noodles.

S$3 fish ball nodles

S$3 fish ball noodles

we both had the meepok tar, less noodles.

6 fish balls

6 fish balls

usually it comes with 5 fish balls.

but as we asked for less meepok, they gave 1 extra fishball, so 6 fishballs.

S$3 fish ball nodles

S$3 fish ball noodles

fishballs were bouncy & sweet. noodles qq, done well, and the chilli today was quite good. sometimes they gave too little chilli.

this used to be our favourite fish ball noodles >20yrs ago when it was at margaret drive when children were small. cheap & good then, still now.

the standard has not changed. it was as good as before. i guess there’s a lot good quality hawker food now & tastebuds have changed.

i still don’t mind this noodles. not the best now for me, & i would prefer jln tua kong meepok tar at 6th avenue. it’s different style…i just prefer that over this.

5pax Family Dinner on New Year Eve 31Dec2016

tofu prawns

tofu prawns

it’s new year eve 31.12.2016. ^^

we having a 5pax family home dinner.

we have been cooking western dishes for christmas eve & christmas day family home dinner.

so for new year evem we decided to have some simple chinese/local dishes.

the tofu prawns were modeled after sek bao sin’s.

see sek bao sin’s excellent tofu prawn dish.

tofu prawns

my own tofu prawns

& after a few tries, my tofu prawns approximate very well in look & taste to sik bao sin’s.

i used quite intense chicken stock. the tofu was the extra silky tofu, excellent soft texture, and was well infused with the tasty stock, with a nice fried skin.

prawns were quite the right texture, and the egg drawn over made the perfect dish.

claypot rice

claypot rice

today, my claypot rice was nearly perfect, among the best i’ve made.

wife gave very good feedback after our recent 6pax dinner with friends on 22.12.2016.

she thought the bottom layer was too burnt, & the rice texture was not that good, a bit soft.

claypot rice

claypot rice

today i made some adjustments, and it was perfect! almost…

rice was not wet, & separate, individual grain…the flavours etc all like before, quite excellent.

& chicken today – the best! super tender & tasty….

moral of the story = do whatever wife says….

claypot rice

claypot rice

so because i had 1 whole deboned chicken it took about 45-50mins to steam & more rice got burnt & the less rice remaining were overcooked.

i took out over 1/3 of the chicken & cooked separately, had the claypot on low fire for 30mins.

claypot rice

claypot rice

i think can reduce the burnt part further…wife said the lightly burnt 锅巴the best..currently my burnt part still over…still will try out the smallest low fire.

fried heng chai

fried heng chai

fried kang kong

fried kang kong

the 2 fried vegetables were all good.

i settled to the 清炒style = high fire, lots of chopped garlic & no water or cornflour added, just oyster sauce & fish sauce. perfect!!

fried tofu

fried tofu

so key for the tofu dish is fry the silken tofu well w/o breaking.

tofu prawns

tofu prawns

tofu prawns

tofu prawns

i used intense chicken stock, very tasty & made sure prawns not overcooked.

the final touch is drawing the egg with a chopstick, to keep the cooked pieces together.

claypot rice

claypot rice

for the claypot rice, i fried chicken fat & ginger, last the salted fish lightly before removing to be added back later. & i fried the rice.

claypot rice

a really wonderful claypot rice this evening! 🙂

ter kar ton – trotter jelly bagus!

my OPS primary school friend bought 9pax dinner at fragrant garden this evening on 30.12.2016. ^^

fragrant garden upper serangoon

this place is quite popular, filled up in the course of the evening.

ter kar ton - trotter jelly bagus!

ter kar ton – trotter jelly bagus!

the ter kar ton – trotter jelly was good!

the lor jelly is “pang” – fragrant. texture was great.

ter kar ton - trotter jelly bagus!

ter kar ton – trotter jelly bagus!

i prefer a bit more skin less lean meat or use the more fatty pig head meat instead of trotters which have quite chunky lean meat, but the taste was good!

hae chor

hae chor

hae chor was good too, crispy, and nice fillings.

pai guat wong 排骨王

pai guat wong 排骨王

pai guat wong 排骨王 not my favourite & not a dish i usually order.

this one looked impressive with the fire around the foil, and a friend took a video. they called it fragrant’s flaming pork.

pai guat wong 排骨王

pai guat wong 排骨王

it was quite inventive & good for zi char stalls to improvise.

don’t think it added anything to the taste though..but keeping it warm & moist, rather than cold & dry, i guess improves the taste.

pai guat wong 排骨王

pai guat wong 排骨王

a very competent dish, just not my dish.

teochew steamed halibut - the best!

teochew steamed halibut – the best!

the sour plum teochew steamed halibut my favourite. first time i taking this teochew style in a teochew restaurant.

i had a nice hk steamed whole turbot 港蒸多宝鱼 at富记大排档 in tai wai, hong kong 5.6.2015.

teochew steamed halibut - the best!

teochew steamed halibut – the best!

that was HK$98. this one S$70.

but i think worth every cent. this a much larger fish & very thick, tasty, tender fillet.

teochew steamed halibut - the best!

teochew steamed halibut – the best!

for me, a quite wonderful dish.

oyster omelette

oyster omelette

the oyster omelette was quite good. just nothing out of the ordinary.

beng thin's oyster egg sheets = S$28 for medium

beng thin’s oyster egg sheets = S$28 for medium

though not the same preparation, i think beng thin’s thin sheet oyster egg is better in overall taste experience.

oyster omelette

oyster omelette

but you know that was S$28 for medium, this probably S$18 for large, 1/2 the price. so i would have more of this, and sparingly of that.

teochew fried kuay teow

teochew fried kuay teow

teochew fried kuay teow

teochew fried kuay teow

the teochew fried kuay teow with chye poh was quite excellent, very flavourful.

one of the better ones i had.

teochew fried kuay teow

teochew fried kuay teow

though recently we had a better teochew fried kuay teow at crab at bay in macpherson.

& the dish there even better than this. the kuay teow was more burnt PLUS there were sliced fish like in sanlo horfun. 🙂

kongbak pao

kongbak pao

kongbak

kongbak

the kongbak pao was mediocre for me.

kongbak pao

kongbak pao

the belly pork was actually tender & great texture, the taste of the braise though not the best i had.

orh nee

orh nee

the orh nee was quite impressive.

the right side was the look when it as served. the server demo-ed the whisking & the left was the result.

it was good, the yam paste was very smooth, it was not too sweet & the taste was great!

the dinner for 9pax cost S$240, quite a good price & very enjoyable evening together, good food & fun.

Good Kueh Chap Average Trotters So-so Pig Innard Soup @ Kangle 康乐 at HK43 Food House on 30Dec2016

kueh chap

kueh chap

my RI friend came by my place this morning. we decided to go to HL43 Food House at holland drive to have some kueh chap on 30.12.2016. ^^

S$4 kueh chap

i had some nice kueh chap here the other day, so didn’t mind having it again.

big intestines

S$3.50 big intestines head 大肠头-very ex

i added the big intestines head 大肠头S$3.50 very ex leh..

the stall holder explained that there is a lot of big intestines, but very few big intestines head 大肠头, so it is relatively quite expensive. next time i will just order big intesties.

pig trotters

S$4.50 pig trotters

pig trotters

S$4.50 pig trotters

the pig trotters was just ok i think.

my friend thought it was not good, some parts not so tender, and the lean meat a bit chunky..

for me, most of the gelatinous parts were quite ok, just not the best i had.

kueh

kueh

the kueh here one of the best i had. texture was perfect & the soup also, among the better ones.

pig innards soup

S$3.50 pig innards soup

the pig innards soup i agree with my friend not so great.

soup sweetness a bit artificial, not as good as the recent one we had at aik kee, geyland east central food centre.

the lunch was quite ok for me, just the big intestine head was ex.

anyway great time together with this friend…

beef horfun

beef horfun

there was a carb eater young man among us, so i ordered a beef horfun.

it was quite well done actually. good wok hae for hor fun. beef was tender not too artificial & dish was tasty. 🙂

pig innards soup

pig innards soup

they sell bakuteh here, so the pig innard soup base is the quite light, tasty, fragrant bkt soup, not the ter huan kiam chai soup. this was good too.

pig innards soup

pig innards soup

i quite like this dish. 🙂

cuttlefish & pig innards soup 艇仔粥

cuttlefish & sliced fish congee 艇仔粥

& we had the cuttlefish & pig innards soup 艇仔粥, another carb dish that i don’t mind.

cuttlefish & pig innards soup 艇仔粥

cuttlefish & sliced fish congee 艇仔粥

it’s not the usual hong kong congee preparation, which is totally smooth.

a mix of teochew which is grainy but not much taste, and the hk style. so this was grainy but very sweet & tasty. not bad though i prefer the hk smooth style.

ikan bilis heng chai

ikan bilis heng chai

the 3 dishes made up only S$44, so we ordered a heng chai. this came with ikan bilis, a good tasty dish.

lunch 4 dishes for 3pax was like S$58nett, so i topped up S$8, plus S$26 for voucher, that’s S$34nett, not bad la….

#1 wife's quinoa salad - the best!

#1 wife’s quinoa salad – the best!

& such a beauty to behold too! ^^

i made nobu miso cod.

my god-sis, among the 4 together with her hubby with the closest birthdays, loved this dish & mentioned a few times, so made for her tonight. 🙂

very nice, the flavours very well infused.

one of my favourite dishes. i like the slightly oily fish. the flaky meat firmed up by the marinade, and the special sweetness & texture especially near the bones. 🙂

this evening, it was a bit upstaged by the teriyaki salmon.

wife added the dill grown by our helper, a nice touch & very matching for the dish.

i made a mistake actually.

was not familiar with the controls of the new oven & burnt the most precious parts, the skin, so had to lift off most of the burnt skin, what a waste.

anyway it was still such a wonderful tasting dish.

after wife’s salad, i think everyone loved this salmon belly.

belly was slight oily, went very well with the marinade & nicely grilled, so very flavourful.

#4 pan-grilled kurobuta

#4 pan-grilled kurobuta

i did the pan-grilled kurobuta. it’s fatty but very tender & flavourful so quite easily well received by the diners.

#5 roasted vegetables

#5 roasted vegetables

to have more vegetables, i prepared a roasted vegetable dish, something i don’t do often.

it was very easy to do, just cut vegetables, drizzle with olive oil, sea salt & black pepper, & lined with some butter, then for this quantity, 30mins in a 250degC oven.

everything finished, including the whole garlic!

#6 creamy white wine fettuccine

#6 creamy white wine fettuccine

i had 2 experimental dishes this evening.

first the creamy white wine sauce fettuccine. my very first time.

#6 creamy white wine fettuccine

#6 creamy white wine fettuccine

it turned out to be very nice, according to my daughter & wife & guess.

#6 creamy white wine fettuccine

#6 creamy white wine fettuccine

i made the usual browned garlic in olive oil, with fresh basil, added quite intense chicken stock & white wine, a bit of sugar. it was creamy & tasty, fettuccine was nicely al dente.

still, i think i would reduce the sauce further & increase the cream next time.

#7 mock fiduea - baked seafood neehoon

#7 mock fideua – baked seafood beehoon

the baked beehoon dish was intended to proxy the fideua dish.

we had this excellent fiduea dish at foc. it’s a pasta but feels like a very tasty well-infused beehoon.

i couldn’t find any fideua in the shops, so i thought i would proxy with beehoon.

i soaked & cut the beehoon & placed in the dutch oven, then added intense chicken + prawn stock with prawns & squid covering the beehoon, then placed in 250degC oven & baked for 15mins.

it was actually a very tasty dish, & my friends finished all. but it was not quite western or fusion, and if it was a tasty beehoon dish, it did not feel like anything else.

maybe i will still go look for fideua, maybe at phoon huat delicatessen.

cheok-mung-brought-a-very-nice-red-wine

nice red wine from charity fundraising event

the last dish is the tagliata, so wife opened a red brought by one friend.

this a bottle they ordered from a charity fundraising event, which they bought a few bootles & maybe bringing over the malacca the following week when 5,6 of them are going.

a very nice quite full body red & quite smooth.

i used a 400day grain fed wagyu MBS 3/4 (1 in thick about 300g+) for the tagliata di manzo.

wife did the plating.

as usual beef was very tender & tasty. for this evening daughter & wife found the wagyu beefy. for me it was ok, the taste that i like.

very sweet strawberries & cherries

very sweet strawberries & cherries

a friend brought very sweet & big strawberries & cherries, very expensive i think, like S$13 for a tray of strawberries??

flor patisierrie millefeuille cake

flor patisierrie millefeuille cake

& we have the usual flor patissierie cake.

this was supposed to be a millefeuille cake. i don’t see any layers though, and as my daughter said looked more like a struddle, lots of nice light cream but not quite layered like millefeuille.

we all had a wonderful, most memorable evening.

they did it similarly for the baby squid. this was excellent!

garlic steamed baby squid

we ordered a second time.

i will do this myself at home. it is an easy dish to prepare.

deep-fried crispy fish skin & thai kailan

deep-fried crispy fish skin & thai kailan

crispy fish skin with thai kailan.

deepfried-fish-skin-thai-kailan

deep-fried crispy fish skin & thai kailan

nothing special about this dish, just it was done very well.

very nice crispy skin , not salty, and excellent poached thai kailan, sweet, fresh, luscious green.

drunken prawns

drunken prawns

drunken prawns another ordinary dish, just the soup was very nicely herbal, very tasty.

i seldom order this dish, as you imagine, if it is just poached prawns & average soup.

i will order this dish here.

drunken prawns

claypot heng chai

smoked duck with char siu

char siu was good too, not the best, but good!

crispy teochew char kuay teow with sliced fish

crispy teochew char kuay teow with sliced fish

the “chao tar” fried teochew kuay teow very good.

crispy-teochew-style-kuay-teow-with-chye-poh-sliced-fish

crispy teochew char kuay teow with sliced fish

their invention was i guess to add sliced fish like sanlo horfun, and to slightly burnt the kuay teow.

PLUS it’s not oily, so a very excellent dish.

crab beehoon

crab beehoon S$38 for 2 crab promotion & no charge for beehoon

there was this crab beehoon promotion – S$38 for 2 crabs & no charge for beehoon.

usual price is S$68 & promotion ending 14.1.2017.

crab beehoon

crab beehoon S$38 for 2 crab promotion & no charge for beehoon

crabs were fairly good size, at least 500g or bigger, & totally “toink” meat very full to the shell, and sweet, very good crabs!

the failure was that the beehoon was overcooked & soggy, though it was well infused. hope that was one time not their usual standard.

i learned later that one friend already revisited the restaurant. i will do that too before 14.1.2017 if i can! 🙂

flor patissierie cake

flor patissierie cake

flor patissierie cake

flor patissierie cake

the finale was the flor patissierie cake.

very nice cake, light fluffy not too sweet very fresh cream, wonderful taste experience..japanese inspired french pastry…the japs do everything equal or better than originals…

the friend who lives near the siglap outlet have been buying like 1/2 dozen or more cakes from there lately we think they should really give him a VIP card. haha! 🙂
