yong tau foo - S$4.10 for 7 items

yong tau foo – S$4.10 for 7 items

it was good. price was good too.

i had 5 pieces for S$2. but my veg was S$0.60, & the cuttlefish, a humongous piece, was S$1.50, so total S$4.10. they wrote there small $0.60, medium S$1, large $1.50.

i was ok with it la.

yong tau foo – S$4.10 for 7 items

cilli & sweet sauce were all good.

i had a pig skin, a teochew fish cake, a taupok, a fried dumpling & a green chilli – 5 pieces.

unlike the ytf stall at kopitiam @ SGH, the fish meat in the taupok & chilli was generous, not meagre.

i like all of them.

cafe cali @ park avenue rochester

cafe cali @ park avenue rochester

i parked across the street from park avenue rochester hotel.

parking still S$0.50 for 1/2 hr, not bad la…

restaurant seating ambience not so great, like a cheap place, but cheap ok la…as long as good. lol! 🙂

cali wings

cali wings

the other choices did not attract us.

so we ordered 2 cali wings for appetizer. good choice!

presentation was restaurant standard.

the wings also restaurant standard, better than har jeon gai in most of the zi char places.

salad quite nice too, refreshing, and a bit of bearnaise? went pretty well with the wings too.

striploin steak

striploin steak

for the mains, i had wanted to try both the steak & the wagyu burger.

sis thought we should order another dish that is not beef, so we picked pan-fried salmon.

this striploin medium rare standard better than i expected.

i was thinking like coffeeshop or food court or even aston’s, but this was good restaurant standard.

striploin steak

striploin steak

not sure what steak?

not the very tasty wagyu steak of course, but it was sweet.

striploin steak

striploin steak

and tender enuf. some tougher parts & mostly no residue.

not a top steak, but not lousy steak also, and done well la! 🙂

pan-seared salmon

pan-seared salmon

the pan-seared salmon also restaurant standard, both in presentation, taste & treatment.

pan-seared salmon

pan-seared salmon

x'mas decor at cali cafe

x’mas decor at cali cafe

cafe entrance was in disarray!

doing x’mas decor during business hours while guests were entering & leaving?

service was polite ok but not enthused, not forthcoming nor particularly helpful.

they don’t serve plain water, only bottled water, not a good idea in my opinion but that is the restaurant’s prerogative. seems strange for the market positioning, which is basically cafe, though the food was pretty good by cafe standards.

for S$15.90 nett, i guess the groupon deal was pretty good for this standard of food la…

Pan-fried Pork Steak with Gochujang on 19Nov2016

pan-fried pork steak with gochujang

pan-fried pork steak with gochujang

after coming back from our memorable seoul eat & hike 10-13nov2016,

& having had excellent korean bbq almost every night, twice at newmaul sikdang,

i tried my hands at couple of gochujang pork dishes. ^^

i first did the korean grilled belly pork with gochujang for teban gardens community breakfast on 18.11.2016. 🙂

that was a big serving for like 100 people. i did with 1.5kg belly pork. pork was very tender but not breaking, good bite & quite excellent korean gochujang flavour & sweet tasty pork.

the community service centre folks & the volunteers all loved it.

pan-fried pork steak with gochujang

pan-fried pork steak with gochujang

for this evening, i made pan-fried pork steak with gochujang. panfried in hot pan.

it was really nice. very juicy, tender, tasty with gochujang. an excellent dish!

i am going to serve this to my family & friends la… 🙂

defrosted scalded pork steak from sheng shiong

defrosted scalded pork steak from sheng shiong

i had some frozen pork rib steaks from sheng shiong, like 500g pack for S$5 or thereabout. they looked very good so i bought them.

after defrosting & washing with salt, i scalded with boiling water & cleaned the steaks.

gochujang

gochujang

my old gochujang bottle finished, so i went to sheng shing earlier to get a small tub, 170g for about S$2.40.

seasoned with gochujang, chopped garlic & ginger

gave a thorough rub & stand for 30mins (or 2hrs la…). 🙂

then its a very hot pan.

with a bit of butter.

pinch of salt = 1/6 tsp ?? agak-logy to taste la…

move the steaks around the pan for even heating. then turned fire to medium.

i covered the pan a bit, to make sure pork steak fully cooked. can also reduce to low fire & cook longer w/o cover la…lagi best!
