& JH came over to join 5pax family dinner on 8.3.2021.^^

wife made excellent kale salad & ice vegetables,

also pangrilled halibut & excellent perfectly charred mirin wagyu ribeye steak

I made teriyaki cod and seafood alio olio…very good too.

the last time I made pencai 盆菜 was 2 years ago, CNY eve 2019 – recipe here 🙂

HCK brought pair of 对联couplets he wrote

eddie brought 2 champagne 2 reds (real drinkers, respect…jo brought yamazaki, CCG brought vodka (i tried a bit with lime soda) & homemade coffee ice cream

siak brought home made thai tapioca coconut dessert

SCG brought bengawan solo lapis sagu kueh salat ..

&

LYF did the washing up solo…very paiseh..told him dare not invite him next time liao..lol!.

LCH can only arrive 8pm, so we arranged dinner at 8pm and drinks pre-dinner from 7pm onwards, and I got 烧肉 for pre-dinner bite with the champagne and reds…:-)

dishes were all good. friends all loved the 烧肉, pencai 盆菜 and teochew braised trotters 卤元蹄..only cod was a bit salty…still tasty..

really fun evening with RI brothers..wonderful time chat & laughters & all loved the food..

made dinner for wife’s brother CCK and sis CYS family – 5pax visitors on CNYday4 on 15.2.2021.^^

8pax visitors a day so had to spread out to several makan sessions with my side family, wife’s side family and vegetarian dinner for niece family..

1. hk steamed garoupa fish tail 港蒸龙虎斑尾
2. tanhoon prawns
3. claypot tofu with belly pork
4. steamed cod 金银蒜蒸雪鱼
5. 白斩鸡 & chicken rice
6. 3 egg spinach
7. stirfry romaine lettuce

& aunty bes added a sambal okra

chicken rice and 白斩鸡excellent as usual..

everyone liked the steamed cod, hk steamed garoupa

& also the tanhoon prawns which Ervin arranged so nicely..

the claypot tofu need improvement..tasty enough..sweet peas overcooked, sauce can improve..still dish was finished.

3 egg spinach tasty sauce as always, romaine lettuce ok.

2. flamed miso glazed jumbo prawns
3. crabmeat donburi with prawns, scallops, miso salmon belly

this year not as good as 2020.

my chawanmushi texture not right…my recipe was doing for 5-6pax…the adjustments not enough for 2pax..so a bit viscous…

flamed jumbo prawn could be better.

donburi though was good, flavourful and the miso salmon belly seared scallops were great! 🙂

claypot rice very flavourful..sil told me she really likes my claypot rice, really “pang”…

sl, wen all loved the chilled sotong with “kek you” 桔油dip…

my brother said braised trotter very nice…texture, colour, taste all quite perfect…

mustard vegetables pot 芥菜煲 my first attempt, quite good..can improve taste..

after the mustard vegetables dish at imperial treasure ion orchard last week..

will write recipe later..

wine chicken always good.

today’s salted egg bittergourd not my best, still quite good flavours…

3 egg spinach always good, very tasty.

everyone had a great time…niece brought her toy poodle niko…a very well tempered dog not the on your nerve super excitable variety..lol!

1. best beautiful delicious salad (by lisa)

everyone loved the food..

qh commented few times he never tried so many different tasty vegetraian dishes..the 2 boys had several helpings…

sl specially liked potato cake (& wen commented the chilli was nice), eggplant & funghi linguine.

had a great time with family…with covid restrictions of 8 visitors a day we arranged to have relatives visit in separate groups over the CNY period. so today for sis, bil plus niece 4pax family who are all vegetarian. 🙂

teriyaki cod very good…

chorizo prawns spaghetti wenyu loved it..

kagoshima A4 wagyu was superb..great marbling and flavour.

chocolate lava cake was a failure though..

different oven setting etc luckily the 70%cocoa dark chocolate taste ok..will try again…

wife’s salad was amazing – with pumpkin, arugula, pine nuts toasted almond flakes, red onions, shaved parmesan cheese and what else…it’s becoming the best salad i had, better more luxurious than any in the restaurants..

sautéed mushrooms and grilled vegetables were good.

ika sugatayaki was perfect this evening, just the right texture, great taste and nice bbq flavours from flaming.

halibut was good, charred and tender inside. beurre blanc sauce was good.

chorizo prawns tagliatelle was nicely al dente and very tasty.

slow oven roast Australian prime ribs very tender (6hrs at 90degC and 10mins at 250degC) to perfection, nicely browned and marinade very tasty.

& lamb (18mins in 210degC oven) had little gamey taste, moist and tender, nicely medium rare…K & MY really enjoyed the dinner.

& jessie’s dessert was really refreshing..I had 2 bowls. 🙂

sm arranged 8pax family lunch 2pm so I didn’t eat basically at OCH place.

mom enjoyed lunch. she ate all the dishes..claypot rice and also the pork and liver sausages, chicken and spinach. OCH really loved the spinach. I was told by OCH that mom asked him to buy and add more taupok to the wine chicken sauce which ws very tasty…

daughter SM requested for kimchi chigger and kimchi fried rice after last week’s dinner, so did the dishes again for 6pax dinner -with wife, sm, jh, wen, sl….

3. galbi – slow roast australian prime rib

5. korean chap chye

kimchi chigger very good, and sm loved the kimchi fried rice, delicious, good wok hae…

galbi was perfection this evening…perfect texture…I slow roast 6hrs in 90degC oven then browned 10mins at 250degC…purrrfect!

super tender and flavourful!^^

made sure meat temperature was above 65degC after 6hrs slow roast and above 75degC after 10mins at 250degC super tender and flavourful

gochujang belly pork was new experiment…nothing much really, and can only be as good as gochujang dish can be…flavours quite standard…children liked it though especially jh…

my chap chye NOT aunty bes standard..

tofu cheesecake was good…I kept >1/4=really not good idea…finished it all myself…
