Missing Best Friend

yesterday friend get-together over green tea
special sushi and kaisen don
enjoyed delicious food and celebrated birthday together
tea tasting, philosophy discourse, slowly drink and lightly taste food
relaxing
sitting down for heart to heart talk

now separated in two realms
the song cannot continue, the tea gradually turns cold
sigh – that only the ashes of the candle are left
pity – people and things are easily separated, but seeking a bosom friend is hard
in a split moment
things still the same but people no longer

chemo destroys ruthlessly
pain penetrates the deepest part of the body
dream of being in an uncomfortable place, tossing and turning unable to sleep
even wearing a morphine patch on the chest
trying to sleep and eat
the illness suffering is unbearable

the set lunch goes by courses = appetizer S$16 mains S$24 dessert S$7

yong seng doesn’t take beef so we skipped the beef tartar

had mushroom croquettes, leek tempura & cheese terrine with toast..

all good..I like cheese terrine best..leek tempura very good too..croquettes the usual fare..

for mains we had the squidink paella (2pax portion) & the white fish ( which was barramundi..

all very good standard..very tasty paella

seabass very good too

for dessert 2 orders of creme catalana..not my kind of dessert

soup was good standard very tasty good stock base 上汤

dimsum also good standard

cod & kurobuta were good too very competent

fried rice & yeemeen ok too competent

dessert was good ..the peach gum especially very refreshing not too sweet & more than competent

service ok except for the hk restaurant manager very wooden & not engaging not conversational very poor body language like turning away unwilling or unhappy to respond to queries..maybe had a bad day..it happens cut some slack maybe?

Long Yuan (龍源) curry roast duck not open yet so we had joo chiat ah huat wanton noodles..

pretty ok but chilli different from usual though ok not bad also not among the best..

decided to tapao Long Yuan (龍源) curry roast duck afterwards as it was open.

really enjoyed the duck and curry very shiok!

good service by jasmine.

complimentary sake so so still good accompaniment for dinner.

oyster shooter was great.

pitan tofu also nice but did not have snow crab as in menu.

lobster sashimi good, fresh and sweet but really small serving for 2pax for such a priced menu.

sashimi was thick & big cut…otoro and akami were great..no rotate as in menu but replaced by sake belly and hamachi bother very good…

mini ikura uni don was excellent…uni was sweetened good serving…nego toro good…no lobster sushi as in menu…

no kurobuta as in menu..replaced by miso cod which was excellent and prawn which was bad…either not fresh but more likely poor preparation so prawn meat was mushy…not firm…

foie gras not the best…wagyu tagliata (sliced) should be better than saikoro (cubed) in menu..

somen was good tasty but not Japanese and not fusion, basically a good TungLok dish..

dessert jelly was nice but totally TungLok …chef eddie offer yuzu ice cream to make it more Japanese. lol!

service was good overall. some pointers to improve below-

douraku seating was bad in the concourse hallway like canteen, not ideal for this price omakase…we were going to not take the omakase & jasmine got us a proper table seating in TungLok restaurant.

I think its ok if change menu items however server should inform and explain..instead I asked why certain items on menu not served then chef Eddie came to explain…

we informed that it was birthday but restaurant didn’t offer anything…

& thanks children for the presents ..just what I need for hiking & no more uncle sandals

enoki salad starter good standard & refreshing

drunken chicken competent better than most

1/2 prawns with tanhoon very good

beer braised duck only dish mediocre underwhelming

deepfried fish head claypot soup was excellent supersweet – best dish for me!

damping noodles good

& spinach was very tasty with salted egg flavours

2 pastas both excellent..ragout busiate pasta also the agnolotti pasta both very tasty

& the signature t-bone florentine steak excellent bestest ..wonderful charred flavours seeet and tender steak

the sides spinach, mushrooms, charred cauliflower all very good.i like cauliflower best..

sticky date pudding pretty good too…

enjoyed very much the company and relaxed evening and great dishes…especially the Florentine T-bone steak….

didn’t meet meng ghee for a long while just keeping up and chatting occasionally on JD.

the lunch sets, pho, bun cha etc priced at about S$10 & S$11 were pretty good and include a drink, a rice paper roll & pho or bun (beehoon)..we shared mixed platter which had good belly pork, tofu, rolls and also pate (for making banhmi.
