a friend bought dinner at new lucky claypot rice at holland drive food centre this evening on 11,3,2016. ^^

my wife & i are low on carbs and generally don’t eat claypot rice. 🙂

new lucky is very near my place, i knew of it for a long time but have not taken it here before.

just last week, the same friend was with me, but we were late & new lucky was closed by 1.20pm, we ended up having coffee at hans & sharing a sandwich.

this time i was there at 5.45pm. my friend was already there & the food had arrived within 10mins of his order.

we shared a S$10 claypot rice for 2 & a S$4 watercress soup with pork soft bones.

the rice was very fragrant, individual grains.

the chicken was very tender, and i liked the pork & liver sausages. there was also the salted fish.

my friend said not to add the dark sauce, and to taste & enjoy the fragrance of the rice.

i did that too. i also added the dark sauce. you see, i enjoyed the fragranc of the dark sauce as well…haha! 🙂

while i enjoyed the rice, it was really a lot of carbs for me. i am thinking i will try this dish myself, with a lot less rice, a lot more chicken. haha!

the soup was good. not the good restaurant standard lie tong kind of good, a good hawker stall food centre soup kind of good.

i like pork soft bones. this was good & make for a sweet tasty soup.

after dinner, we went back to my place for a cuppa then to SICC to watch the movie mission impossible – rogue nation.

Sambal Sauce Seabass – Another Crowd Favourite!

#12 helper's sambal sauce seabass - this everyone's favourite

sambal sauce seabass 26.8.2015 – this everyone’s favourite

in addition to the spicy pork ribs/pork soft bones, another regular crowd pleaser for my dinners is the sambal sauce seabass (& spicy tau jeon seabass). ^^

i love the dish myself & all my friends love it too. in fact i think it is more popular even than the spicy pork ribs. 🙂

i guess fish is more neutral, tender & easy to eat even when placed against a very tender pork ribs or soft bones.

it’s a dish my helper cooked regularly for the family & for my dinners. i have done only once.

& i have served it many times in my dinners for my friends. 🙂

#10 sambal seabass

sambal seabass – 3.10.2014

the farmed seabass in singapore is not like the australian barramundi or the french seabass. it has a bit of “mud taste” and is a bit “hu” ie not the very firm, bouncy type of texture, but slightly mushy.

#9 aunty bes sambalsauce seabass

sambal sauce seabass – 28.5.2015

certainly not my favourite fish.

btw, my favourite fish, even more than usual cod, is the chilean seabass, the patagonian toothfish, which is not even a bass, but a cod. 🙂

aunty bes' spicy tau jeon seabass

spicy tau jeon seabass – 19.8.2013

by steaming with the spicy tau jeon sauce, and in more recent times, the sambal sauce, not only it took away the “mud taste”, but complemented the fish sweetness very well. also, i believe the sauce tensioned the skin a bit & made the fish just slightly more firm & less mushy. 🙂

heinz assam fish sauce

hai’s 海士 instant assam fish paste

i used the hai’s 海士 instant assam fish paste in recent times, as we liked it a bit better than the spicy tau jeon, and also because i could not find the latter in giant lately.

i used 1 packet for a large seabass (700g) or 2 smaller ones (500g), and garnished chopped spring onions & chilli padi (sometimes my helper used sliced red chilli & spring onions). then in the steam oven (or a usual steamer) for 12mins.

My Favourite Ramen @ Hanamaruken(花丸轩) Dotonbori Osaka on 21May2013

pork soft bones ramen at hanamaruken dotonbori osaka

was posting my recent ramen experience at toyama black (富山ブラック) by menya iroha at ramen village (拉麺小路) at level 10 kyoto station, and got motivated to look up my dotonbori photos during my may2013 trip with my sister.

we visited this stall, hanamaruken ramen (花丸轩) at dotonbori osaka on 21.5.2013. it is my favourite & only ramen that i really want to eat. 🙂

they served the ramen with a 10″ (maybe 12″) long pork soft bones which had been cooked & flavoured for don’t know how many hours the taste & texture was just sublime! 🙂 of course there were the scallion, nori (seaweed), & you can get your own water, pickled ginger & 1 hard-boiled egg for every bowl of ramen you ordered.

see the youtube video of the wondeful bowl of ramen here.

being the carnivore i am, 2 slices of thin chashu are ok for me but a 10″ long pork soft bones infused with all the supreme flavours was about my only motivation to devour 1 large bowl of carbs…but of course it was about taste & texture contrast, so carbs was quite welcome together with the pork. 🙂

i will take this w/o fail everytime i am in osaka. other food can wait…haha. 🙂
