Contemplate Eternity

mankind
continue to evolve
astronomy and geography
mathematics and technology
unprecedented,
rapid advances
and yet, humanity stagnates
going in circles
despite having
five thousand years of wisdom
“上善若水” (virtue is like water),
nurturing all without contestation
gentle and inclusive
respond in harmonious way with nature
acting in accord with the flow
conversely
going against the natural order
driven by greed, anger, and ignorance
recycling mistakes
inflicting violence, kill and maim
even viruses
possess a sense of nature balance
not to kill the host
show greater restraint than we do
endangering the entire Earth and environment,
and the ecosystem
in the end
mankind must surely self-destruct

time, and space
without beginning or end
is everywhere
nature
magnificent and beautiful
mysterious and wondrous
universe and constellations
by deduction and synthesis,
there need be a supernatural being?
logical thinking,
analysis and dialectics
yield no conclusive answers
or committing to faith
the soul return to the creator
to win eternal life?
causality, the cycle of cause and effect
good and evil have respective paybacks,
reincarnation through six realms,
suggest
the presence of a higher power
giving out rewards and punishments
or
mutual causations and effects
purely
objective natural laws?
“顺道而昌” (thrive along the way)
“逆道而亡” (perish against the way)
devoid of emotive connotations
and without need for preaching
sentient beings
still
unable to comtemplate eternity
give up seeking
or asking the wrong question
for answer that does not exist
death ends all
is that
existentialism or
atheism
and so what if it is?

森の大桥
鸟瞰松川峡谷
水帘瀑布直泻池中
喷雾散撒凉爽
闪烁的阳光勤快的
点缀彩虹

漂浮的白云
染满秋色的丛林
争先在水面描画图案
清晰光泽的白水越过堤坝
哗啦啦装满了
钴蓝色河

漫步河畔
经林中小径红叶铺地
迎来玄武岩
柱状节理的火成岩
列成神奇的
墙壁雕塑

秋林岩壁钴蓝河
旖丽如在画中
情知所起 对酒当歌
让人向往吟诗长醉
如何守得住此
蓬莱心境

森の大桥
Mori-no-Ohashi Bridge@Hachimantai
offers bird’s eye view of matsukawa gorge
curtain waterfall plunging vertically to the pool below
water sprays disperse refreshing coolness
glittering sunlight energetically embellish the rainbows

drifting, floating white clouds
forest dyed in autumn colors
jostling to be the first to paint on the water art canvas
clear lustrous white water gushes over the dam
splashing and filling up the cobalt blue river

strolling along the river
via the path through the forest paved with red leaves
brings to view the basalt wall
columnar jointed igneous rocks
assembled into a magical wall sculpture

autumn forest, rock wall, cobalt blue river
beautiful as if one is in a painting
know what arouses the effusive emotions, the urge to break into songs over wine
make people yearn to recite poems and be intoxicated forever
how to hold on to this
utopian state of mind
